Over the weekend I watched Chaos Walking. The film was directed by Doug Liman and it stars Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley. The film is about a planet full of men after all of the women have disappeared. The men are afflicted by "the Noise.” “The Noise” is a force that puts all their thoughts on display. Tom Holland’s character, Todd Hewitt, comes across Viola, played by Daisy Ridley. She is a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet. Viola's life is threatened because she is the only woman. Todd vows to protect her while he also finds secrets out about the planet.
So I didn't like watching this movie. I think during the production of the film there were some troubles with the timeline. I'm also pretty sure that the film is based off of a book. I think there were some complications with the ages of characters and the placing of different scenes. I think this is what caused the film not to do so well. After years of planning and multiple reshoots, the film ultimately failed upon its release. It’s a movie that doesn't give enough time or space to the things that need exploration. I will admit, I thought there were some pretty cool action scenes and I did enjoy the cinematography of the film. I just felt a little lost throughout different parts. About halfway through the movie I was completely lost and I actually had no idea what was happening. I haven’t read the book, so I don’t really have anything to compare it to but it was still hard to watch. I wouldn’t recommend watching this film because of all the complications it had. I’m giving it a 5/10. I’ve seen worse but this film just wasn’t for me.

Over the weekend I watched The House on Netflix. So this isn't actually a full length film. It's three short films in one to make up a run time of about an hour and a half. Each short film takes place in a different time period and timeline. But, each of the films revolve around the same house. All of the films are stop motion animation as well. The style reminds me of Fantastic Mr. Fox. Each of the films are very interesting and I've never really seen a story like these before. The first short film was directed by Emma de Swaef and Marc James Roels. This first film was probably my favorite from the three. Although it was my favorite, I thought it was the most strange. By strange I mean it was just crazy and weird. It kind of reminded me of Coraline. It was the most scary and creepy. I even had to hold my hand over my computer screen at times. I thought that this one had the strongest story out of the three. After watching this one, it really had me thinking for a long time. The second film was directed by Niki Lindroth von Bahr. The second film wasn't scary but it was a little creepy. I thought it had a weird story and the end of the film was kind of gross. The third film was directed by Paloma Baeza. The third film wasn't scary or creepy at all. This one was probably the most normal out of the three. I thought that it ended well and it was kind of cool. Overall, I liked watching these films. They were definitely something that I've never seen before. I thought they all had a unique story. I recommend giving them a watch if you're interested in something like this but I wouldn't recommend watching the first short film at night. I'm giving the first film a 8/10, the second film a 6/10 and the third film an 7/10.
Over the weekend I watched Eternals, directed by Chloé Zhao. I enjoyed watching this film and I definitely think it was a different take on what we've seen in other Marvel movies. I really liked the action in this film and I didn't really think it got slow. Although it had some great action, I thought the plot was a bit off at parts. It was hard to follow along at some points and I kind of got a bit confused at the end. I still think that it was a good watch though. Eternals probably isn't my favorite Marvel film just due to the fact that I was a bit confused while watching it and I think there were parts that could have been better in the story. I would still recommend watching it because it wasn't a horrible film. I’m giving it a 7/10 because I think there were parts that could have been done better. I did like when Harry Styles came in the mid-credits scene though.
Over the weekend I watched Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. I really enjoyed this film and I really liked how the film tied into Iron Man. I hadn’t really seen anything like this in the MCU before and I was quite surprised. I loved the theme of it and I hope to continue to see Shang’s story. I think that this film was a great set up to stage 4. My favorite part of the film definitely had to be the fighting scenes. I loved how they were able to mix both types of fighting. We saw the type of fighting that we’ve seen before in other Marvel movies as well as martial art type fighting. I’m glad that I decided to watch this film. I didn’t see it in theaters and I didn’t really think I would watch it on Disney+ until my dad recommended it to me. I’m glad he did. I’m giving this film a 9/10 and I would definitely recommend watching it.
I really enjoyed watching this film and I thought that it was a great end to the trilogy. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't seen it though. I really enjoyed the story and I felt like this wasn't something that I've really seen in a Marvel movie before. I love the progression of Tom Holland's character throughout the movies and I think that this one really ties it all together. I think this might be on of my favorite performances by him. While watching the film, I definitely had many emotions. While it obviously had some comedic parts, like most MCU movies, I also thought that it had much deeper parts to the story. I will admit that I cried. I liked the fact that the action in the film never really stopped. I even think that the villains were done very well. I was also very intrigued be the fight scenes. Besides the annoying kids running around the theater, I definitely loved watching this film. The end credit scene was also a shocker. I would definitely recommend watching this film and I'm giving it a 10/10. But to watch this film, you'd probably want to watch the other Spider-man movies first.
Over the weekend, I watched The Da Vinci Code. The film was directed by Ron Howard and it stars Tom Hanks. I liked this film and I thought that the story was very unique. I was a little confused what was happening sometimes though. There were many different plot points and I didn't really get what everyone was doing sometimes. But, I still liked the whole theming of the film. I really liked some of the shots that where incorporated into the film. There was one "micro" type shot when one of the characters, Sophie Neveu, was explaining to Tom Hanks' character, Robert Langdon, how to solve a puzzle. I thought that shot was creative. I haven't read the book to this yet so I don't know how different it is from the movie. I might recommend watching this film to someone else and I'm giving it a 7/10. I liked watching it, I was just a little confused at times.
Over the weekend, I watched Apollo 13. The film was directed by Ron Howard and it stars Tom Hanks. The film is obviously about the Apollo 13 lunar mission but I definitely learned a lot from the film. I didn't really know about the whole event very well, but, after watching the film, I got to see a lot more of what happened during the event. I really enjoyed the film and I thought that the way the story was taken to the screen was very impressive. I really liked the cinematography of the film. I thought the parts what they were floating around the space ship was pretty cool. I liked learning about the whole story and the film portrayed it very well. I also liked the movie's soundtrack. I thought that the film was kind of sad at some points because what they were doing during the whole mission was very risky and everyone just wanted the astronauts to come home safely. I'm giving this film a 10/10 and I would definitely recommend watching if you have not seen it yet.
Over the weekend I watched Alice in Wonderland. The film was directed by Tim Burton and it stars Anne Hathaway, Jonny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. The film is about the well known Disney character, Alice, as she is older now and she travels back to Wonderland. On her second journey to Wonderland, must face the Jabberwocky in order to save Wonderland from destruction.
I thought the film was okay. When I first watched it, I didn't really understand that this was Alice's second time going to Wonderland. I thought the visuals were pretty cool and I liked the costumes. The story just felt a little strange to me. Again, there were parts of the film that I thought were very creative but I was a little confused at other times. I didn't really like the whole Alice having to fight the Jabberwocky thing. That was weird. The music score was nice though. I definitely liked the classic a lot more. This would not be my first film to recommend to someone but it could still be worth a watch. I'm giving this film a 6/10. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great. Over the weekend I watched Big Eyes. The film was directed by Tim Burton and it stars Amy Adams. The film focuses around a woman named Margaret Keane. Margaret is a painter and her art style consist of children with unnaturally large eyes. The film takes place in the late 1950s to the early 1960s. During this time, it was very difficult for a woman to be able to sell her art. Margaret marries a man named Walter Keane. Walter wants to create an art business with Margaret. At first, everything seems to be going fine but Walter soon starts to take the credit for his wife's work. She paints and he sells. He goes around telling everyone, including the critics, that he is the painter. The whole film is Margaret trying to understand what is going on and how she can take her credit back.
I loved this film. I have never seen it before and I was very glad that I decided to watch it. The story, cinematography, music and casting was done very well. In fact, the film was actually based on a true story. Throughout the movie, Walter Keane was very manipulative and was able to come up with a fake story that people would believe. He was even able to convince Margaret that it was good for the family and it would help bring in the money. Even in the end, Walter convinced himself that his story was real. He would not accept the fact that he was not the true artist. He knew he was a fraud but he never wanted to admit it up until the time that he died. Nothing that he portrayed in his life was true. This is now one of my favorite Tim Burton films. I loved how the story progressed and Margaret finally figured out what was truly happening. But, in the end, Margaret did benefit from everything that did happen. I'm giving this film a 10/10 and I would definitely recommend watching it. Over the weekend I watched Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. The film was directed by Tim Burton and it stars Eva Green. The film focusses around a boy named Jake who goes back in time, through a time loop, to the year 1943. Jake meets many children who live together in an orphanage. But, each of the children have a gift called a peculiarity. For example, one child have the ability to control air and another is invisible. Miss Peregrine, the woman who watches over all of the children, has the ability to transform into a Peregrine falcon. Miss Peregrine, and the children, are stuck in loop and relive September 3rd 1943 over and over again. They do this to stay safe from the outside world. There are monsters and other bad people who what to take down peculiar people and Jake realizes that it's his job to take these monsters down.
I had mixed feelings about this film. I have seen it before but it has been awhile. It was based on the book by Ransom Riggs. When I first read the book, I really enjoyed it and I was excited to hear that they would be coming out with a movie. The movie was very beautiful and I thought the home, where the children stayed, was very unique. It had a great soundtrack and they did a good job casting for the film. The one problem I had with the film was the fact that the movie was a bit different than the book. If there was no book originally, and it was just a film, then I would say that the film would be a lot better. I just think they left out and added a little too much at some points. For example, the ending of the film was almost entirely different than the book. But, with a director like Tim Burton, you know he has to add some crazy twist to the story. The film was good but I definitely think it had potential to be better. This is one of those films where you don't really have to read the book to understand the movie. Though, I would still recommend reading the book because it's very good. I'm giving this film a 8/10. It has great cinematography but I would have liked to see more from the original story. |
